[San Francisco, CA] Shakespeare Garden (located in Golden Gate Park)

Secluded and tucked away behind a fence of foliage, it is easy to pass over this little garden amongst the loud, exciting more popular attractions of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It is located right around the corner of the amazing Academy of Sciences! Who can compare to that.

But Shakespeare Garden has its own little charm that keeps visitors coming back for more.

If you are looking for a quiet place to sit and relax after a long day of wandering the gigantic Golden Gate Park, Shakespeare Garden is what you need. The garden is usually empty with only a few visitors at a time. It is quiet with plenty of seating in the shade. It is the perfect place to unwind.

William Shakespeare is viewed by many, as a romantic writer. It's mostly thanks to Romeo and Juliet,  but he also has quite a few passionate sonnets. So it makes sense that the garden dedicated to him is as romantic and poetic as his work. It is not uncommon for the garden to be closed for weddings. Once you find your way to this garden, you will understand the appeal of it being the spot for the celebration of love.

At the gate, you are greeted by a beautiful arch gate with Shakespare Garden written in exquisite lettering. Then you step into a pathway of trees and flowers with a sundial at the center. Then at the other side of the garden is a brick wall with plaques of Shakespeare's work. The rest is beautiful cut grass. This garden is beautiful, it's romantic, and definitely a little gem.

***Also, please keep in mind the sign just outside the door that states our furry friends are not allowed entry. I seen quite a few people ignoring that sign and allowing their dogs to dig around the well placed flowers. Not cool. Let's keep this garden as it is, and be respectful.***

Happy Wandering, Alice.
